Governance, Policies & Key Documents

VIY was established as a CIC (Community Interest Company) limited by guarantee in April 2015  (company no. 9537026).

We are governed by our Articles of Association which define our social purpose and objectives and also our not-for-profit status. We are also an asset-locked organisation.

As detailed in the Articles, the CIC’s objectives are to carry out activities which benefit the community and in particular to:

  • Encourage young people to take part as volunteers in local regeneration and community building improvement projects
  • Encourage local professional tradespeople to volunteer as trade skills mentors for young people
  • Provide personal development and learning/training opportunities for young people, with a particular focus on trade and building skills
  • Support young people in gaining skills qualifications that enable them to access and progress to further training, work placement and employment opportunities

The CIC is led by a board of (currently three) directors, supported by an external, non-executive Advisory Board comprising representatives drawn from organisations and sectors of particular relevance to VIY’s activities.

We are also in the process of aligning our governance practices with the benchmark ‘good governance’ requirements of now being a Tier 2 partner of Sport England.
