Keeping the grassroots live music and arts scene alive by supporting venues with vital renovations and improvements, as well as equipping the next generation, VIY’s young volunteers, with Barclays #LifeSkills through their time on a VIY project.

We’re expanding our work in the West Midlands by working with Birmingham City Council through the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund and Youth Guarantee Trailblazer, delivering impactful community refurbishment projects whilst supporting 150+ NEET and at risk young people before March 2025/26, following 5 initial projects in 2024-25.

We’re continuing to make a positive impact in King’s Lynn and West Norfolk through our partnership with Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk, supported by the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.

Thanks to part-funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), we’ll be renovating nine vital community spaces across Bromsgrove, helping local young people to learn trade and vocational skills, whilst supporting them into positive next steps into the construction industry.

We’re working with the City of York Council, part-funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) to work with 75 young volunteers to refurbish and transform five local community, arts and cultural venues in York.

As England Rugby’s official partner, we’re working with Continental Tyres and Kwik Fit on a programme of work to improve rugby club facilities and encourage more women and girls to get involved in rugby, by providing a more welcoming environment and breaking down barriers to participation.

Since our work through the UK Community Renewal Fund (CRF), we’ve grown our presence in the East Midlands by working with a range of partners, including 10 local councils to deliver a series of projects with and for local people and places, with many projects supported by part-funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).

Expanding our work across to the north east, we’re working with Gateshead Council, part-funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), on three community projects in grassroots sports clubs and community spaces.

We’re working through two strands of the GMCA’s Community Grants programme – developing essential life skills and the Inclusive Employment strand of their UKSPF activity, engaging and re-engaging young people into inclusive employment and opportunities.

Part of the community engagement programme for Ørsted’s Hornsea 3 offshore wind farm, located off the Norfolk coast and further north off the Yorkshire coast. Here our VIY projects are all focused on retrofit works to help boost energy-efficiency in community buildings, whilst also delivering progressive green skills critical to the growing sustainability sector.

Over the way in Yorkshire and The Humber, we’re working with Hull City Council, part-funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), on three initial community projects. Here we’ll be working closely with Keepmoat Homes, one of our construction partners whose HQ is on the doorstep.

We’re delivering 30 projects renovating grassroots cricket clubs in 10 priority areas across Greater Manchester between June 2022-October 2024. This is in partnership with Lancashire Cricket Foundation, Cheshire Cricket Board, the England and Wales Cricket Board, Chance to Shine and Greater Manchester Combined Authority and its ten local councils on a 10-Point Action Plan to use cricket to improve young people’s lives and create stronger, healthier communities in Greater Manchester.

Expanding our established hub in the East Midlands, we’re working with Leicester City Council on three initial projects, all focused on the retrofit of community buildings to improve energy-efficiency and delivering green skills accreditations for young people, funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund.

Building on our growing presence in the East Midlands since the Community Renewal Fund (including in Mansfield), we’re working with Mansfield District Council through the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund to deliver a series of impactful community refurbishment projects. So far, we’ve completed six projects across Mansfield – with more to come – as we expand our reach through new partnerships.

Building on our presence in the South, we’re partnering with Medway Council on projects aimed at revitalising community sports venues and providing trade skills opportunities for local young people. Supported by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, these initiatives are helping to strengthen community connections and inspire learners for future careers prospects.

Work with Morgan Sindall to transform community spaces near their sites, helping create vibrant spaces for local communities and opportunities for the next generation of construction talent. So far, this partnership has supported projects across the East & West Midlands and Wales, with more in the pipeline.

Here’s a look at some of our work together so far

Through the UK Government’s Know Your Neighbourhood fund, designed to increase volunteering and tackle loneliness, we’ve been working with the Norfolk Community Foundation to renovate multiple community spaces in Great Yarmouth, one of the most deprived towns in the UK.

Following our success across Norfolk delivering 12 community projects through the Community Renewal Fund, three of which were in Norwich, we then completed 18 projects  community facility improvement projects at 15 valued community spaces across Norwich across 14 months through the Neighbourhood Community Infrastructure Levy (NCIL) – a community funding programme that uses money collected from developers, with spending led by the priorities of the community.

We’ve been awarded funding through Nottingham City Council’s share of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF). Between January 2023 and March 2025, we’ll be supporting local young people with volunteering opportunities to support the refurbishment of 14 community venues and spaces in Nottingham City.  Through a variety of works, we’ll be improving their functionality and usability, enabling them to engage new audiences, supporting their existing members with new and/or improved services and helping to increase the venues’ confidence for their future sustainability.

Following our highly successful project launching the W.I.S.E youth hub in the centre of Redditch, we’ve now renovated three more community spaces across Redditch between 2023-2024. This is thanks to part-funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) and VIY National Partners including Toolstation, who have a central distribution centre in the local area.

Our first year in partnership with the Screwfix Foundation saw us complete four community renovation projects. We’ll be doing the same across all four UK home nations in 2025-26. As a grant-giving charity, the Screwfix Foundation is passionate about making a difference by funding projects that improve, repair and maintain homes and community spaces for those in need. Together, we’re helping to create safer, more welcoming places for the people who rely on them most.

Growing our impact in Southend, we’re partnering with Southend-on-Sea City Council through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund to revitalise key community spaces. These projects are providing young people with valuable trade skills and accreditations while transforming local venues into vibrant hubs for the community.

Our partnership with Sport Birmingham, together with Birmingham City Council, The Active Wellbeing Society and the Canal And River Trust, is funded through the Commonwealth Active Communities fund. Together, we’re embarked on five community projects in 2023, across five wards with the greatest levels of inactivity and low socio-economic mobility, to improve the quality and access to sport and physical activity for the local community.

Supporting Think Active’s vision for everyone to benefit from physical activity and enjoy a healthy and active lifestyle in safe and thriving communities, we refurbished six community spaces in 2023 across Coventry, Solihull and Warwickshire. Enabling more physical activity to take place and ultimately, help more people in their local area to be more active.
