Bromsgrove District Council

Working to develop pride in place through renovated community spaces, and develop local people and skills through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund

We’re renovating 12 community spaces across Bromsgrove between January 2024 and March 2025, co-funded by the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) with Bromsgrove District Council, along with another 3 community spaces in neighbouring Redditch. Spaces/clubs offering sports or physical activity are also match-funded through our national partnership with Sport England.

Part-funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund

“This scheme will not only make our community spaces better but will also help young people learn important skills for work, investing in their future. It’s turning empty places into something useful, creating jobs, and making our area better for everyone, which is excellent news all round.”

Blackwell Adventure

We helped Blackwell Adventure to upgrade their sports hall by insulating and redecorating this central facility on their grounds – a space so cold in winter it had limited use and very limited potential for half the year. Following support from Sport England to implement a new roofing system including a new glazed gable end, this retrofit insulation inside will now allow the venue to be used and enjoyed all year round and increase vital revenue for this charitable sporting organisation.

Wythall Park Hall

We helped to redecorate Wythall Hall – untouched for 30 years! With a freshen up throughout the whole centre, used for many community, sports and social events on the corner of a popular local park, this has helped boost the interest in hiring their space for private events, providing much-needed additional income to keep the centre open.

“3 months on, we are still enjoying our makeover of Park Hall. As we go into lighter days and evenings, more people are still commenting on how fresh and updated the hall looks and we’ve felt able to increase our booking advertising :)”

Charford First School

‘The Rainbow Garden’ at this primary school was created in memory of their Headteacher’s mother who was killed by a drunk driver. They’d done much of the work themselves to bring the community together, but we helped finish off their space with the help of our local young people by creating seating, hedgehog houses and planters – to be planted and used by families and the local community as a quiet tranquil space.

Shawfield Trust

Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (BDHT) are working hard to improve the local areas where their residents live to improve and give residents a better quality of life. Along with local young people in the Shawfield area, we transformed a disused piece of land into a welcoming outdoor space for the local community and residents of the housing estate to use, including a bike shed, as residents are currently storing bikes in gangways in the flats without secure space, along with a seating pod built, picnic benches and planters to bring residents together for BBQs and other community events.

One of the young people, after learning to build sheds with VIY, has now got a job with a local shed maker!

Bromsgrove Rugby Club

We’ve been helping this local rugby club to become more inclusive to help them grow their female and pan-disability teams – they’re in the early stages of growing these sides. Their changing rooms are looking extremely dated and dirty so we have redecorated them in their club colours to be much more welcoming to younger and female players. Pictured above we’ve also created cemented blocks and moved their dugouts to a calmer part of the pitch for neurodiverse young people.
