Elliot,19, joined our VIY project at Eastmoors Youth Centre in Cardiff, funded by Morgan Sindall. Having previously become disengaged with education after being excluded from school, he wasn’t sure if this opportunity would be for him.
However, after just three days, Elliot achieved his City & Guilds Intro to Carpentry and Joinery. Motivated by this success, he chose to volunteer his own time to return for the entire second and third week – showing real dedication and passion.
Elliot shared: “The first day I came here and we got to it, I just thought; I could do this for the rest of my life. And I’d love it.”
Inspired by our skilled trade mentors, Elliot now wants to pursue a career in carpentry – a brilliant outcome from his time on the project.
