We’re delighted to be announced as one of the first delivery partners for National Grid’s Power Within, a new £5 million programme aiming to support 5,000 young people who are not in employment, education or training (NEET) towards employment by 2031.

Alongside The King’s Trust and Fedcap, VIY will help deliver Power Within’s ambition to help young people build practical skills, gain qualifications and develop the confidence to take their next steps towards employment.

It’s a great fit for VIY’s commitment to working with more NEET young people. Through our ongoing work to refine our model, supported by partners including Impetus, we’re helping more NEET young people overcome barriers, build confidence and progress towards meaningful employment, particularly supporting the growing skills gaps in construction and associated infrastructure and energy sectors, all while doing something constructive for vital community spaces.

Cordi O’Hara, Executive President, National Grid UK, said: “Too many young people face barriers that can make it harder to build confidence, develop new skills and take their next step into employment. Power Within is about working with experienced partners to provide practical support that reflects what young people need to help them progress. The King’s Trust, VIY and Fedcap each bring different strengths and experience that together can help thousands of young people develop the skills and confidence to progress.”

Tim Reading, our CEO, said: “Partnering with National Grid to help deliver Power Within is a really strong fit for VIY. Our current delivery nationwide gives young people who are NEET the chance to gain practical hands-on skills, mentoring, qualifications and work experience whilst helping to renovate and retrofit local community spaces and venues that matter, especially in regions and locations where the need is greatest. In this way, our model absolutely mirrors the goals and ambitions of Power Within by building young people’s skills, confidence and work-readiness to unlock ‘next step’ further training and job pathways, and ultimately meet workforce demands, across the construction, infrastructure and energy sectors.”

We’re excited to work with National Grid and our fellow delivery partners to create more opportunities for young people to develop their skills, realise their potential and take their next steps towards employment.
