The Rainbow Centre
About the project
What does this community space/venue do?
The Rainbow Centre provides support for the community in partnership with local businesses. The kind donations we receive throughout the year are invaluable in assisting with our work, helping families in Scarborough to navigate financial pressures. We thank you for your continued support.
VIY proposes to improve the energy efficiency, thermal performance and functionality of the existing timber outbuilding at the Rainbow Centre, transforming it into a warm, welcoming and private office space for staff supporting vulnerable families and individuals accessing the Centre’s services.
The project will focus on practical energy-efficiency improvements, including the installation of wall insulation, replacement of the external door, installation of an energy-efficient window and internal finishing works. These improvements will reduce heat loss, improve thermal comfort and help lower energy consumption and running costs, creating a more suitable and comfortable year-round workspace.
Alongside the physical improvements, the project will provide a valuable skills and employment opportunity for local young people. Participants will work alongside experienced trade professionals, gaining hands-on experience in construction and retrofit while developing practical workplace skills and working towards a recognised Retrofit qualification.
The project will therefore deliver benefits on two levels: improving an important community facility so it can better support vulnerable families, while giving young people meaningful practical experience, recognised skills and greater insight into careers within construction and the growing retrofit sector.
