Project Overview

The community church is dated and in need of revitalisation. The main hall, recently plastered, requires painting to complete its transformation. A refreshed and inviting look will attract new users and groups to hire the venue, ensuring the church remains a vibrant hub for the community. The main hall is the church’s “bread and butter,” and this much-needed makeover will provide a welcoming space its users deserve.

Newsong Community Church, located in the heart of Bromsgrove, is a not-for-profit charity that reinvests all revenue into improving its facilities and services. Dedicated to providing sports and community amenities, the centre hosts fitness classes, a youth centre, table tennis, and meeting events in its three meeting rooms. The refurbishment is part of a broader plan to enhance the building’s appeal and expand its reach within the community.

Project Overview

The project involves painting the entire venue in a neutral palette to attract external users and generate much-needed income, especially after council funding is set to cease next year. Other improvements include creating an accessible laptop bench to replace the current upstairs tables, upgrading old lighting to energy-efficient LEDs, and installing minimalist cupboards for better storage.

These updates will enable the venue to host a more diverse range of users and community groups, with new spaces designed for meetings or quiet, relaxing zones. This will make the venue more appealing for external hires, providing local groups with a valuable community hub while ensuring financial sustainability.

Project Overview

VIY will give the community centre a much-needed makeover by painting the main hall in vibrant colours chosen by the committee and groups, and converting an unused breakroom into a cosy youth breakout space with a TV and play equipment. The remaining space will be transformed into essential storage for group activities. These upgrades aim to make the centre more appealing for events, youth programmes, and rentals, increasing its revenue potential. The centre is a vital hub for the community, hosting various activities such as parties, classes, youth groups, and school programmes.

Project Overview

VIY will renovate and refurbish the female changing rooms and toilets, which are in poor condition and urgently need refreshing. This will provide young girls and women with a proper space to change, eliminating the need to use the upstairs toilets. The project includes painting benches, doors, frames, walls, and ceilings in the club’s colours. Additionally, a large communal changing area, often used by female players, will also be redecorated.

The club has faced challenges in retaining female players, with adult players moving to a neighbouring club. However, they have a thriving junior girls’ team that they are determined to support and grow into the next generation, ensuring the future of female rugby at the club. Anchorians also host football and hockey, making this upgrade vital to the community.

Bromsgrove Girl Guides

10 December 2024

Project Manager Contact: jordan@teamviy.com

Project Overview

Bromsgrove Girl Guides is a not-for-profit organisation located in the heart of the Bromsgrove community. In addition to hosting five Girlguiding groups every weeknight, the venue is also used by external hirers offering activities such as toddler groups, mini football, and fitness classes. While Girlguiding remains the primary source of income, Bromsgrove Girl Guides is eager to attract more local groups and expand its role as a community hub.

The building, however, is in need of significant improvements. Peeling paint, damp issues, and limited storage have left the space looking dated and less functional than it could be. VIY has stepped in to provide much-needed renovations, including repainting the entire interior, treating and resolving damp problems, and carrying out various carpentry works – including creating dedicated storage solutions for different groups, boxing in electrical boxes, and installing shelving and coat hooks to make the space safer and more practical. The changes will also allow for the removal of a large cupboard, freeing up valuable space within the hall.

These upgrades will not only refresh the venue’s appearance but also make it more inviting and practical for current and future users. By improving the safety, functionality, and overall appeal of the hall, Bromsgrove Girl Guides hopes to attract more child-friendly groups and increase its bookings, strengthening its role in the community.

As a charity with limited resources, the support provided through this project will allow Bromsgrove Girl Guides to redirect their funds toward other critical improvements, such as replacing the roof and upgrading the heating system, ensuring the venue’s longevity and continued positive impact on the local community.

Project Overview

The project focuses on refurbishing a portion of the building to serve as a meeting room and café, marking the first step toward opening the space to the public. This initiative brings the team closer to their goal of establishing a community arts venue by 2025, featuring classrooms, studios, and a café. Currently vacant, the space has the potential to become a vibrant hub for creativity and community engagement.
