Lubber Fiend
About the project
Lubber Fiend, Newcastle is a DIY music and events space in Newcastle upon Tyne, which opened in May 2022. As one of the city’s newest independent small-to-mid-sized venues, it currently has a capacity of 140, with plans to increase this to 200 in the future. The venue is a versatile creative space, operating as a music venue, bar, radio studio and workshop.
The project:
The VIY project delivered a practical refurbishment of the existing green space at Lubber Fiend, transforming it into a more functional, organised and welcoming area.
The project was supported by Dulux, Howdens and Music Venue Trust (MVT), whose support helped deliver the refurbishment and create a valuable hands-on learning experience for young people.
Key works included:
- Construction of bespoke seating with integrated storage
- Installation of a wall-mounted frame for coats and bags
- Creation of a new kitchen area with running water
Together, these improvements have created a more functional, organised and welcoming space for artists, staff and visitors, while making the area more practical and versatile for the venue’s day-to-day use.
