About the project
What does this community space/venue do?
Founded in 1979, developing players from 4Yrs signing teams U7s-U16s.
What is VIY doing?
VIY will deliver a carpentry-led construction project at Hoyland Common Falcons Junior Football Club, engaging local young people in a hands-on learning environment. The project will focus on the design and construction of high-quality timber infrastructure to improve the usability and accessibility of the site.
Works will include the installation of bespoke timber-built structures and upgrades to existing facilities, with a particular focus on improving access, organisation, and functionality across the site. All elements will be constructed using timber, enabling learners to develop practical carpentry and joinery skills as part of their accredited training.
The project will be delivered by VIY learners under the supervision of qualified tradespeople, combining real-world construction experience with the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications and develop employability skills.
What will be the impact of our project?
The project will have a positive and lasting impact on both the football club and the wider community. Improvements to the site will enhance accessibility, usability, and overall experience for players, volunteers, and the SEN school that regularly uses the facilities. By upgrading infrastructure through timber-based solutions, the project will create a safer, more organised, and more inclusive environment that better supports a growing and diverse user group. This includes improved access to facilities and more efficient use of space, benefiting both sports activities and wider community use. In addition, the project will deliver significant social value through the engagement of young people in meaningful training. Learners will gain practical carpentry skills, work towards accredited qualifications, and build confidence, teamwork, and employability skills. This creates pathways into further education, apprenticeships, or employment, ensuring the impact extends beyond the physical improvements to the site. Overall, the project will strengthen the club’s role as a key community asset while supporting the development of the next generation of skilled tradespeople.
