Project Overview
Flo Charitable Trust was established by a group of volunteers with the goal of preserving the skatepark when its previous tenants closed down the facility. It is a skateboarding-only space that offers coaching, women’s-only sessions, and hosts events and competitions for the skateboarding community.
The Trust is currently in the process of relocating to a new venue and will be closed for a few months during the transition. To continue serving the community, VIY will be supporting to build modular obstacles that can be used for workshops and outreach to individuals who may not have easy access to the current venue. These obstacles will also be transported to the new site once the move is complete.
Additionally, the world-class halfpipe, originally built for Olympic skater Sky Brown, requires varnishing and protective covering to preserve it over the winter months. As part of the move, VIY will also assist with general clearing and removal of outdated structures within the current venue.
These efforts will enable Flo to generate more revenue by offering new obstacles and expanding its outreach to communities that might otherwise be unable to attend the skatepark. By protecting the halfpipe, we are ensuring its longevity and smooth relocation when a new venue is secured. VIY’s work will also help ensure the future of the venue through essential preparatory tasks for the move.
