George, 22, joined our VIY project at St Augustine’s Family Centre in Norfolk, funded by the Borough Council of King’s Lynn & West Norfolk through the UKSPF in February 2025.
Referred to VIY by college of West Anglia while studying Bricklaying, George was keen to expand his skillset and gain as much hands-on experience as possible. He got stuck into painting and decorating — skills outside his trade — but embraced every opportunity to learn, grow his confidence, and build practical experience.
George shared: “I’ve definitely learnt something new.”
With support from our Youth Progressions team after the project, George completed a mock CSCS test, passed his CITB Operative Test, and attended employability workshops. VIY also funded his CSCS card and supported him to get the tools he needed to start work.
Just four months later, George successfully secured full-time employment as a bricklayer with HMG Brickwork — a brilliant next step in his journey.
