About the project

What does this community space/venue do?

In 30 years of service, EBCF have delivered Careers Guidance support to over 100,000 people, delivered 40,000 accredited qualification, and offered enterprise support to 1,550 businesses.

EBCF Ltd is a not-for-profit company limited by guarantee established in 1992 by Her Magesty’s Government mandated by the Secretary of State to establish locally managed community capacity building provision via East Birmingham Taskforce (1988). The Company established three main areas of focus, these being, Jobs, Enterprise, and Training. The business operated under the JET Shop brand for many years in the heart of East Birmingham and during the last 10 years successfully branched out to other inner-city areas of Birmingham and regionwide to meet contractual obligations and strategic objectives.

What is VIY doing?

This project represents VIY’s most ambitious redevelopment programme to date, delivering a complete transformation of the former crèche facility into a modern, welcoming, and engaging environment for children. Extensive redecoration and refurbishment works will be carried out throughout the building, including the classrooms, toilet facilities, hallways, and communal areas, creating safe, vibrant, and inspiring spaces that support learning, development, and wellbeing.

In addition to the internal improvements, the project will include the creation of a brand-new outdoor crèche area designed to encourage play, exploration, and social interaction. The external space will feature a variety of playground equipment and specially constructed play furniture, providing children with exciting opportunities for physical activity, imaginative play, and outdoor learning. The completed redevelopment will significantly enhance both the indoor and outdoor environments, leaving a lasting legacy for the children, families, and wider community who use the facility.

What will be the impact of our project?

The impact of this project will be significant and far-reaching, extending well beyond the refurbished classrooms and crèche area to benefit the wider community centre and everyone who uses it. The existing space has remained largely unused since before the Covid-19 pandemic and has fallen into a state of considerable disrepair. Years without investment have left the classrooms, corridors, and crèche facilities outdated, uninviting, and no longer fit for the growing needs of the community. A complete transformation is therefore required to bring these important spaces back to life and maximise their potential.Through a full programme of refurbishment and redecoration works, the project will create modern, flexible, and welcoming environments that can be used for a variety of purposes throughout the year. The redesigned spaces will support educational activities, childcare provision, youth programmes, community workshops, training sessions, social activities, and family-focused events. This multi-purpose approach will ensure that the facilities serve a much broader section of the local community and remain active, relevant, and accessible for years to come. The creation of a dedicated outdoor crèche and play area will further enhance the centre’s offer, providing children with a safe, stimulating, and engaging environment in which to play, learn, and develop. Alongside the improved indoor facilities, these new spaces will help create a welcoming hub for children and adults
