Brandon, 21, first joined VIY as a learner on our Hartcliffe Flower Farm project, after being referred through the South Bristol Youth Guarantee.
Having left his job at an alternative education school to pursue a career in the trades, particularly carpentry, Brandon had been out of work for several months and was looking for a way to gain practical experience and move towards his goals.
From the moment he arrived on site, Brandon stood out for his initiative and positive attitude. He quickly picked up new skills, supported other learners and wasn’t afraid to step up when something needed doing. His steady approach and willingness to get stuck in made a real impression on the team.
That commitment has now led to a new opportunity, with Brandon joining VIY’s South West and South Wales team as a Peer Mentor. In his new role, he’ll help other young people take their first steps towards employment, sharing his own experience and encouraging them to build their confidence and skills.
It’s a brilliant example of how a first opportunity can lead to something much bigger – and Brandon is now helping other young people do the same.
