Places For People

Working together to deliver local social value, one of their three ESG strategy themes: Helping Communities.

We’ve delivered four brilliant community projects in partnership with Places for People – the UK’s leading social enterprise, changing lives by creating and supporting thriving communities.

From across the East Midlands to Yorkshire, we’re excited to be expanding our work with Places for People from 2025 across the country to deliver social value in other local communities they support.

Take a look at what we’ve achieved together so far.

“We are always looking for new ways to support people into work and address the skills shortage being felt across the industry. That’s why we’re delighted to be able to continue our support for VIY as they look at ways to engage the next generation of skilled professionals. Partnering with like-minded organisations and supporting projects like this allows us to deliver what matters for our communities, and hopefully inspires young people to join the industry.”

Sunnybank Community Centre, Sheffield

This long-disused community centre has been brought back to life and reopened as part of Sunnybank’s day service for adults with learning disabilities. While the building was structurally sound, the interior needed a full refresh to create a bright, welcoming environment for future activities. We transformed the space with upgraded cupboards and shelving, fresh paint and built outdoor planters and benches. The centre is now brighter, more welcoming, and ready for a wide range of community activities.

Co-funded by Sport England.

Bilal Sports Centre, Leeds

A well-established charity supporting some of the most disadvantaged, vulnerable and isolated children and young people in the community. Alongside local young people, we helped improve the centre by building a new stud wall around the interior gym to create a more secure space, installing double doors for easier equipment access, recladding the hallway, and converting a disused storage area into separate male and female changing rooms. We also added new shelving for equipment storage. These upgrades have made the gym safer, more practical and better equipped to support the charity’s vital work with local young people.

Project co-funded by Toolstation and Travis Perkins.

New Routes, Norwich

This important community space supports young people seeking asylum and refuge in Norfolk, offering employability and skills training, social activities such as dance and fitness, and support services including housing, medical and financial advice. We helped make the centre more welcoming by redecorating inside and creating a fit-for-purpose outdoor area with a handmade shed, fence, pathway and planters. We worked alongside 29 young people, the majority of whom are supported by the centre or through the People from Abroad team at Norfolk County Council.

Project co-funded by Sport England and Norfolk City Council.

Angleton Rooms, Sheffield

Home to the MyLife Project, which supports young people facing barriers to mainstream education, Angleton Rooms in Sheffield has been transformed with the help of young people from Sheffield College, Youth Justice, and Sheffield City Council. We carried out a full interior refresh, creating a bright chill-out zone, upgrading the tech area with new worktops for dedicated learning, and giving the kitchen a vibrant facelift. The improvements have turned the space into a welcoming, purposeful, and inspiring environment where young people can learn, build skills, and feel a sense of pride and ownership.
