The heart of a VIY project; professional tradespeople sharing skills, experience and supporting our young volunteers to take positive next steps into the construction industry.

What do our Trade Skills Mentors do?

Our core team of Lead Mentors play a key role in site management and delivering our projects on-the-ground. They work alongside other Support and local Volunteer Mentors, who help guide our young volunteers through their activities and help boost their confidence and ambition through conversation, by working on the project together.

You might be a tradesperson looking to:

    • deepen your connections and impact on your local community

    • do meaningful work with purpose

    • keep active in retirement or semi-retirement

    • learn new skills

    • find a different kind of project

If you’ve got the skills, desire to inspire the next generation and work with patience and empathy, follow these three simple steps:

    1. Check out our project pipeline to see if we have projects in your area

    1. See our roles below and read our FAQs for more information on what being a VIY Mentor looks like
