VIY will be transforming an overgrown and neglected woodland area into a vibrant and inclusive sensory trail and garden, alongside a dedicated forest school space for local young people and vulnerable adults to enjoy for years to come.
Once a thriving outdoor area, the space fell into disuse during the COVID period due to limited funding and capacity. We’re now bringing it back to life with a full renovation — including the construction of new timber planters, the creation of an accessible bark pathway, and the installation of sensory boards, bug hotels, and other interactive features designed to stimulate and inspire.

On this project VIY will be transforming the piece of land into a community garden for the public to use and plant. The site will get a new path for access, 6 benches and 5 planters and is the pilot of more to come in the area.

VIY will be undertaking a full transformation of both the exterior and parts of the interior of Evington Youth Club. The building’s exterior is currently in a state of significant disrepair, with rotting wooden fascias, flaking paint, and overgrown vegetation surrounding the perimeter. As part of the project, VIY will remove and replace the damaged fascias, repair broken wooden panels, and repaint the entire exterior using durable, weather-resistant paint — giving the building a fresh, welcoming, and professional new look.
The surrounding outdoor space will also be revitalised, with the clearance of overgrown woodland areas around the car park. New wooden planters and raised beds — potentially incorporating seating — will be built to enhance the space and make it more functional and inviting. Where feasible, we also aim to repaint car park lines to improve accessibility and organisation.
If time allows, VIY may also refresh the interior, including repainting the main sports hall and other key rooms, whilst also looking into upgrading lights to make it more energy efficient, further supporting the youth club’s mission to provide a vibrant, safe, and engaging environment for the community.
The Treasury Mansfield

VIY will be undertaking a full transformation of both the interior and exterior of The Treasury building. Externally, the main car park is currently closed off and severely overgrown, having been left untended for several years. This area will be cleared, tidied, and enhanced with newly built planters and a seating area to create a more welcoming and usable outdoor space. Similarly, the back garden — once a vibrant seating area for community groups and the community café — is now overgrown and neglected. Existing benches and planters, which are rotten and beyond repair, will be dismantled and replaced with new, purpose-built alternatives.
The main entrance door, outdated and worn, will also be replaced to improve both security and the building’s overall appearance.
Inside, the building requires several key upgrades. The current lighting consists of old, inefficient hanging fixtures, which will be replaced with new LED lighting — significantly improving energy efficiency, reducing long-term running costs, and contributing to the building’s sustainability. As part of the project, we’ll also be looking at other ways to reduce energy use, such as upgrading insulation where possible.
The stage in the main hall will be sanded and repainted, while the hall’s walls will receive a fresh coat of modern, coloured paint to revitalise the space. One storage room, currently being used as a general dumping ground, will be reorganised with proper storage racking to maximise functionality. Additionally, the room on the left-hand side as you enter the building will be repurposed into a usable hireable space, including full redecoration and furnishing — bringing it back into practical use and creating another potential income stream for the venue.
